I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum when it comes to Will Ferrell movies, but I do love Stranger than Fiction. This movie is so smart, it's about writing and art, and, for me, it's the right amount of humor from Ferrell. He doesn't go overboard in this, like he can in other films, especially ones made around this time.
